Today I added a Lambrecht Polymeter to the instrument collection on the website.  I believe it dates from the early 1900s but I could be wrong.  Lambrecht made polymeters from around 1893 until at least the 1980s.  However this polymeter has a dial face almost the same as one shown in the 1913 Eimer & Amend catalog available on this website.  It has a mercury thermometer, beveled glass, and an old-looking dial face.  Newer Lambrecht polymeters had silvered faces.

Today I added a Naudet marine barometer to the website.  I call it a marine barometer because I bought it from the ship breakers in India, it might actually be a laboratory barometer, it has no means of wall mounting.  I suspect it dates from the 1980s.

See Naudet marine barometer.

I also added a 1903 Eimer & Amend catalog excerpt to the catalog collection on the website.  It contains a few thermometers, hygrometers, and a syphon barometer.

See Eimer & Amend catalog page.

Today I added a Negretti & Zambra M2236 Typ2 aneroid barometer to the website.  I believe it was made in 1979.  It is unique in that it has an odometer-type digital display to indicate the pressure.  A knob on the barometer is turned until an indicator light changes, at which time the digital display indicates the pressure.  It obtains power from one 1.5 volt D cell battery.  The instruction booklet is available for download.  I found it in Germany.  It works well.

See Negretti & Zambra M2236 barometer.

I also added a second Safonovsky Gidrometpribor BAMM-1 barometer to the website.  This one was made in 1989 and works well.  It seems to have a more robust pressure mechanism than the non-functional 1978 BAMM-1 that was already on the website.  I found it in Montreal.

Today I added a Dingens Eco-celli E038 tendency barometer to the instrument collection on the website. It's a clever device that uses Boyle's law and an automatically temperature-corrected pressure scale to measure sea level pressure.  Designed in 1998, it's intended to be a mercury-free school barometer, not an observatory barometer.  However it's also an attractive and affordable instrument for home use.

Today I updated the barometric calculation web pages in two areas:
  • Calculation of Sea Level Pressure from Local Pressure - I added a downloadable, 3-page PDF document which presents the equations for this calculation, along with a numerical example. I also made a minor change in the downloadable Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for doing the calculation. The calculation is applicable to aneroid or mercury barometers.
  • Calculation of Local Pressure from Mercury Column Height - I added a downloadable, 2-page PDF document which presents the equations for this calculation, along with a numerical example. I also made minor changes in the downloadable Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for doing the calculation. This calculation is applicable to mercury barometers only.

Today I posted a web page for a working CENCO model 76890 mercury barometer which has just entered my collection.  It dates from the 1940s and was an inexpensive model, both in the 1940s and today.

I also provided more information on the US manufacturer, the Ohio Thermometer Company.

See CENCO 76890 mercury barometer page.
