jamEs Green/Henry J Green
James Green established his instrument-making business in 1832 in Baltimore, Maryland. He moved to New York sometime around 1849. His nephew, Henry J Green, became his partner in 1879. When James retired in 1885, his nephew Henry took over the company and changed its name to Henry J Green. The company moved to Brooklyn in 1890. Green sold mercury stick barometers to the US Navy as early as 1854 and they were standard equipment when the US Weather Bureau was formed in 1891.
The company moved from Brooklyn to Westbury, New York in 1959.
