These are two aneroid barometers from the collection of Josef Lang of Germany. They were made by the firm Lion & Guichard of France circa 1870. L&G advertised themselves as THE successor to Lucien Vidie (1805-1866), who patented the aneroid barometer in 1844. However several firms began producing aneroid barometers after the Vidie patent expired in 1859. L&G was located at 8 Rue Rocroy in Paris, the same address where the Vidie facility was located.

Vidie gave his manufacturing equipment to the firm Breguet in January 1863.  Breguet sold the clockmaking division to a Mr Brown, who was their plant manager.  Brequet produced about 10,000 barometers and then sold the barometer division to Lion et Guichard in 1870.   L&G later operated for a short time under the name Guichard before they disappeared.

The older barometer on the left has the pressure scale in French or Paris inches, the younger one on the right is in centimeters Hg. The one on the left has the label Changeable (Veranderlich) at 28 French inches Hg which corresponds to 29.8 English/US inches Hg.
