W M Welch
W M Welch founded his company in 1880 in Maquoketa, Iowa. In 1906 the company moved to Chicago and was incorporated as the W M Welch Manufacturing Company. In 1960 the name was changed to Welch Scientific Company. In 1968, Welch merged with the E H Sargent Company (founded in 1852) and changed the name to Sargent-Welch Scientific Company. In 1989 the Welch Manufacturing Division was sold to VWR International LLC. The company continues to operate today as a supplier of science education supplies. Not to be confused with Welch Allyn, which is a totally different company.
