This is the style of rain gauge that was widely used in Canada and similar to the rain gauges used by the Meteorological Service of Canada, going back to at least 1914. This one came with a booklet from the Canadian Meteorological Division that is dated circa 1962. It is made of aluminum, earlier models may be made of brass or copper.

The funnel has an inside diameter of 3.57 inches, which results in an opening of 10 square inches and which was the standard for Canada. The smaller inner tube magnifies the amount of rain by a factor of 10. The dipstick measures up to 0.5 inches of rain. If there is more rain than this, measurement in an external graduated cylinder is required. The inner tube does not overflow into the outer tube, as the outer tube has no bottom. It's about 8 inches tall and is to be mounted on a base that raises the top of the gauge to 12 inches above the ground.

The purpose-made dipstick is labeled The Searle Grain Co, Winnipeg. I don't know if they made the entire rain gauge.
