This is a soil thermometer without any maker's mark.  The thermometer inside is labeled US Weather Bureau but that doesn't guarantee that the device was used by the Weather Bureau.  The thermometer range is -40F to 70F.  The tip and head piece are heavy brass while the tube appears to be phenolic.  It's about 17 inches long and weighs about 2.3 pounds.
