The Keuffel & Esser Company (K&E) was founded in New York City in 1867 as a supplier of drafting instruments by William Keuffel and Herman Esser, two German immigrants. They started selling surveying instruments in 1876, and subsequently moved manufacturing to Hoboken, New Jersey around 1889. They supplied aneroid barometers/altimeters and Biram-type anemometers. They did not survive into the digital age, and filed for bankruptcy in 1982. All production stopped in New Jersey by 1986.
