Eimer & Amend/Fisher Scientific
Bernard Amend founded the firm in New York City in 1851. In 1856 Carl Eimer joined the firm as a partner and the name was changed to Eimer & Amend. They were primarily a supplier of chemical laboratory equipment and chemicals, but did carry a limited range of meteorological equipment. They maintained a glass blowing shop and manufactured barometers and thermometers. In 1940, Eimer & Amend was acquired by Fisher Scientific Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fisher Scientific remains in business today as a major scientific equipment supplier.
