The Germanow-Simon Company was founded in 1916 in Rochester, New York by Harry Germanow, a Russian immigrant who came to the US in 1905.  They started as a small machine shop but found success manufacturing replacement watch crystals made of plastic.  In the 1930s they purchased the Tel-Tru Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of bimetallic thermometers.  They also sold aneroid barometers.  They continue to operate today, manufacturing temperature and pressure instruments.  They also specialize in molded plastic optics.
