This is a US Army ML-435 4-inch rain gauge. It was part of an AN/PMQ-1 Manual Meteorological Station that was manufactured in 1951. The device is made of plastic, with a steel mounting post that clips onto the gauge and is driven into the ground. The funnel is etched with the label "Alton Iron Works".

The funnel and measuring tube have the same dimensions as those components on the Weather Measure 6330 rain gauge (qv), though they are of thinner construction. Therefore it has a rainfall magnification factor of 10 and a capacity of 1 inch of rainfall. The measuring tube has etched graduations, so a dipstick is not required.
