This soil thermometer was part of a military-looking East German meteorological set that I acquired.  I think the set is circa 1990.  The mercury thermometer ranges from -35C to 50C.  It's about 10 inches long overall.  It appears to be made of aluminum.  There is no maker's identification on it.
