Today I scanned and posted a 166 page Soviet meteorological trade exhibition catalog.  The catalog is undated, my guess is it's from the 1970s.  The text is in Russian, English, French, and German.  I found it at an Austrian used bookstore.  It's in the Russia section of the instrument catalog collection.

Today I added a Kew pattern marine mercury barometer to the website.  It was made by the firm of P Adie in the UK.  I'm not sure of it's age, my estimate is that it was made sometime between 1920 and 1942.  The heavy brass barometer is missing it's glass tube and thermometer, but it's still an interesting piece.  Not many Kew barometers are found in the USA.

Today I posted a picture of a R Fuess black bulb thermometer that was recently added to my instrument collection. Black Bulb thermometers were used since the 1800s in an attempt to quantify solar radiation, though this was not very successful. I'm not sure of its age, but a similar device is shown in the 1940 R Fuess catalog available on this website.

Black bulb thermometers are still used today to calculate WBGT (Wet Bulb Global Temperature), a measure of stress on the human body due to weather. The device is located in the pyranometer section of the website. Go to R Fuess Black Bulb Thermometer web page.

Today I posted two instruments to the collection website:

• From 1941, an unknown aneroid barometer made in the former Soviet Union.  If anyone can identify a model number or location of manufacture, please contact me.  Go to Russian Barometer.

 

• From 1951, a ML-436 US Army Signal Corps Assman Psychrometer, complete with a case of thermometers to fit it.  It was part of a AN/PMQ-1 Manual Meteorological Station.  Go to ML-436 Assman Psychrometer.
